We know you have heard of us, and we have been there for our community when needed. CERT is not flashy or a social club, but we stand ready to provide support for our neighbors when they need us the most. Our mission is to help you be ready in case of a crisis, or to hopefully prevent one.
We are searching for new members who want to be a part of helping our community. This is by no means a full-time commitment, after all, we are in Florida to enjoy the weather and friends. We have a set meeting once a month and participate in other activities as necessary. We do take our role seriously in the training we provide such as: Disaster preparedness, fire safety, and others. We also have a CERT shed filled with medical equipment to loan to our community as needed.
You will be well prepared as new members are required to go through the 18 to 20-hour CERT Basic Training Course. This course is provided free of charge and is conducted by Polk County Fire and Rescue. The next training class is taking place as follows:
- Tuesday, January 27, 2026 from 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm
- Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm
- Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
This class will be held at the Polk County Sheriff’s North East Substation located at 1100 Dunson Road, Davenport. Additional Basic Training Courses are scheduled throughout the year; however, most of these sessions take place in Bartow.
