Good afternoon
Central Florida is in the direct path of the next tropical storm (Nicole). It has been reported that we should anticipate heavy winds and rain, affecting all of Florida. News outlets have reported that Nicole is forecast to become a strong tropical storm and could approach Florida at near Category 1 Hurricane strength. Landfall of Nicole’s center is expected on Florida’s eastern coast sometime Wednesday night or early Thursday; however, impacts will arrive well before that happens.
Don’t wait for an impending storm to act. Please see below and the attached information to help you prepare.
- Secure trash and recycling receptacles and trash enclosures to ensure that they do not become projectiles.
- Clean out gutters to ensure that there is no water back up into your homes.
- Plan to fuel vehicles in advance in the event of evacuation and be sure to park vehicles in a safe area.
- Any loose items, such as outdoor furniture, hoses, grills, plants, or lawn equipment, must be tied down or stored inside the house or garage. Screened patios will not protect your property, as screens can be damaged during high winds and rain.
- After the storm has passed, DO NOT move any downed trees in the road, and stay away from any downed electrical lines.
- Reach out in emergencies to your utility company, if necessary.
- In case of an actual emergency, Dial 9-1-1 for Police, Fire Rescue, or for medical emergencies.
- If there is a maintenance emergency, please contact them at 863-289-4379.
